A review of Safetysuit's sophomore studio album "These Times," which features the singles "Let Go," "Get Around This," and the title track.

SafetySuit’s sophomore studio album These Times is expected to be released exclusively on iTunes on January 3, 2012, via their record label, Universal Republic Records. It will have a wider release on January 10, 2012.

Safetysuit co-produced their latest effort with Ryan Tedder, the lead vocalist of OneRepublic, as well as Espionage and Howard Benson, who has worked with such noteworthy bands as My Chemical Romance, and Daughtry.

Background on the Band

Safetysuit is made up of Doug Brown on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jeremy Henshaw on bass, Tate Cunningham on drums, and guitarist Dave Garofalo.

Their debut CD, Life Left To Go, featured the singles “Someone Like You” and “Stay.”

They have shared the stage with such musical acts as The Script, Lifehouse and Mat Kearney; moreover, Brown is credited for co-writing the ballad “May” on American Idol fourth place finalist James Durbin’s critically-acclaimed debut album Memories of a Beautiful Disaster.

Tracks on the CD

The new album opens with the energetic “Believe,” and it is followed by the captivating lead-off single “Get Around This.”

Equally moving are “Staring At It,” “Things to Say,” as well as the title cut “These Times,” which has been announced as their newest single.

Yet another compelling tune is “One Time,” which would also make a solid choice for a potential radio single.

It closes with the emotional acoustic ballad “Life in the Pain,” where Brown’s vocals are soothing, and reminiscent to those of Goo Goo Dolls frontman Johnny Rzeznik and The Fray's Isaac Slade.

“Let Go”

Their single “Let Go,” co-written by Tedder, is sheer brilliance! It is catchy, refreshing, and has a techno vibe to it, that fans will love. It is most worthy of the ‘repeat’ button. The band has also released a remarkable music video for this song that is worth watching.

The Verdict

In summation, Safetysuit’s latest album These Times is definitely a keeper! There is no slump here, and it deserves two thumps up. All four musicians showcase their top-notch talent. Their guitar riffs are electrifying and Doug Brown is one of the most underrated and versatile vocalists that the current pop-rock music scene has to offer.

Benson, Espionage and Tedder have also done a superb job producing this CD. For listeners that are unfamiliar with Safetysuit’s music, this album is a quintessential introduction to their artistry.

It is recommended for fans of pop, rock, and alternative music.
