Acclaimed Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn released her Grammy-nominated single “Dancing on My Own,” on June 1, 2010, via her record label, Konichiwa Records.
Background on the Single
“Dancing on My Own” is featured on Body Talk Pt. 1, an eight-track CD which is the first installment of her Body Talk trilogy albums. The tune was both co-produced and co-written by Robyn and Patrik Berger.
Written with captivating lyrics, it is about a female narrator in a club, who is watching her former lover kissing another girl, and she is subsequently left dancing on her own.
According to her interview at iHeartRadio, prior to her July 29, 2010, performance at New York City’s P.C. Richard and Son Theater, Robyn stated that she wrote this song “in November, in Stockholm,” when “it was dark,” and during a time when “she was clubbing a lot and watching people in this environment. I think it’s an important place for my generation. It’s a place where people go to be a part of something bigger than themselves.”

Robyn’s vocal performance of “Dancing On My Own” is breathy, powerful and electrifying, and when she sings it in a live setting, she truly outdoes herself. Additionally, “Dancing On My Own” garnered her a deserving Grammy nod for Best Dancing Recording in 2011, where she was up against such mega-stars as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, La Roux and Goldfrapp. It is a pity that she did not walk away with the trophy, since it was by far the most superior dance vocal in that category.
