A review of Jo Dee Messina's "Unmistakable: Inspiration," the final volume of her trilogy, which features an acoustic cover of "Bring on the Rain."

On November 9, 2010, country star Jo Dee Messina's third extended play (EP) Unmistakable: Inspiration was released via her label, Curb Records, in a digital mp3 format.

It is the third and final volume of the trilogy.

Background on the EP

Similar to her two previous EPs, Messina serves as songwriter, where she wrote the slow-moving "Heaven Was Needing a Hero," as well as co- wrote two others tunes:"Keep the Faith" and "That's God."The latter was the first single released, where she describes all the instances in her life that touched her in some way or form; these include feeling the sun on one's face, a mountain top reaching towards the sky, ocean waters reaching far into the horizon, or a love that opens up one's heart. For the songstress, all of these colorful images indicate a presence of "God."

Album Cuts from the EP

"Heaven Was Needing a Hero" is a stunning opening track for the EP and a tune that will tug at the listeners' heartstrings due to its bittersweet lyrics. It would make a solid choice as a potential radio single, as well as a moving music video.

The mid-tempo "Get Up Again," co-written by acclaimed Nashville songwriter Hillary Lindsey, is an uplifting tune about getting back up.

In "I Like Me," she acknowledges that she may not be 'perfect,' nor she may be one's 'cup of tea,' but she has a positive perception towards herself, and that's what matters most.

Acoustic Covers

It closes with two covers of hits from earlier albums such as "Even God Must Get the Blues" and "Bring on the Rain." The latter is a collaboration between Messina and her good friend, country mega-star Tim McGraw who provides the background vocals on the original recording. It earned them a 2002 Grammy nomination for "Best Country Collaboration with Vocals"; however, on this acoustic version McGraw is absent, and replaced with a background vocalist from her band who performs his harmony vocals.

The Verdict

Fans that enjoyed the previous two EPs of the trilogy, will be equally impressed with Unmistakable: Inspiration. This is the ideal album to listen to, if anybody is feeling down or discouraged. Messina's passionate and soaring vocals are bound to lift her listeners up to higher spirits.
