Jo Dee Messina Co-writes Three Songs on "Unmistakable: Drive" EP
Similar to her first extended play "Unmistakable: Love," "Unmistakable: Drive," also showcases Jo Dee Messina's ability as a songwriter. She has co-written three songs on this album including "Whatcha Gonna Do About It," as well as "Real Man" and "One Day Closer." The latter two would make solid choices for potential radio singles.
In "Real Man," Messina sings about all the important characteristics and qualities she is looking for in a man. These include courage, strength, compassionate, as well as unconditional love. In return, all these essential qualifications will make her significant other a "real man."
In the catchy tune "One Day Closer," Jo Dee sings about being one day closer to living without her significant other since she "does not need him at all"; moreover, in the song's lyrics she reveals that she is "one day closer to being fine," and inevitably being free.
Noteworthy Songs on Jo Dee Messina's "Unmistakable: Drive" EP
Jo Dee's "Unmistakable: Drive" EP opens with the uplifting tune "Just Drive," which deals with not looking back and "just driving" forward. This song's theme is similar to Jo Dee Messina's chart-topping hit "Bye, Bye" from her "I'm Alright" album.
In the mid-tempo "The Day That I Can't Love You," Messina showcases feistiness and her vocal range. In "Biker Chick," Messina shares her inner passions in that she would like to be a "biker chick" and enjoy their lifestyle. This song is destined to be an anthem for all prospective biker girl chicks.
"Unmistakable: Drive" concludes with two acoustic covers of Jo Dee Messina's previous hit singles "I'm Alright," and "Lesson in Leavin'," which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Country Charts.
"I'm Alright," was written by fellow country singer Phil Vassar, and spent three weeks at the top spot of the Billboard Country Charts in 1998, becoming Messina's second #1 hit on the Billboard Country Charts. By performing "I'm Alright" in an acoustic fashion, Messina is able to make the audience enjoy the tone of her voice, as well as the simplicity and beauty of the song's lyrics, making the song sound rich and fresh.
The Verdict
Jo Dee Messina's "Unmistakable: Drive" EP is an asset for every country music fan. Similar to Jo Dee Messina's first EP "Unmistakable: Love," this showcases Messina at the top of her game, and re-introduces her as a gifted songwriter as well.
