On October 11, 2011, Jeremy McComb’s latest EP Leap and the Net Will Appear was released digitally via his independent record label, McCombover Records. McComb served as co-producer, along with Tim Lawter and Rusty Milner, both of which were former members of The Marshall Tucker Band.
McComb is credited for co-writing five of the EP’s seven tracks.
Background on Jeremy McComb
Throughout his music career, McComb has written songs with such acclaimed songwriters as Bart Allmand, Rick Huckaby, Travis Howard, Jonathan Singleton, among others.
His debut release was My Side of Town, which features such songs as “This Town Needs a Bar,” “Wagon Wheel,” and “Cold.”
Thanks to the support of his dedicated fans, McComb was able to start his own independent label, which is primarily based on fan funding. He is also endorsed with Gibson Epiphone, thus being one of the few indie artists to have one in his possession.
In addition to being a singer, McComb is expected to make his acting debut this year in the leading role in the series “Big Country Blues,” which was created by Brian Ross, who is an associated producer at MTV. This new series deals with the experiences of a fictional young country singer, who leaves his native Kentucky at the urging of his family and girlfriend, in order to try out for a reality singing competition.
Finally, McComb is one true humanitarian and devotes his spare time to such causes as the Wounded Warriors Project’s Soldiers Ride, where he participates in bicycle rides, and serves as their celebrity spokesperson.
Songs on the EP
McComb’s newest EP opens with “Unstable,” which is a catchy and fun tune. It is followed by “She Doesn’t Sing,” which has a bluesy vibe to it, as well as “Time.”
In “Sugarcane,” McComb’s vocals are reminiscent to those of country singer Frankie Ballard.
Equally impressive and refreshing are the following tracks “Easy as Breathin’” and “What a Daddy’s Gonna Say.”
The record closes with the ballad “5 To Midnight,” which is his most compelling song, since it showcases his range and raw talent.
The Verdict
All in all, Jeremy Comb’s sophomore EP Leap and the Net Will Appear is a brave effort. There is no slump here, and it is worth more than just a passing glance.
