Country music singer James Wesley’s newest song “Didn’t I,” from his forthcoming album Real, is slated to be released to radio on April 11, 2011 via his record label, Broken Bow Records. It is the third single from his upcoming album.
His first single “Jackson Hole” peaked at #41 on the Billboard Country Charts, and his second song “Real” was a smash hit. It reached #22 on the charts, tugged at his audience’s heartstrings, and earned him much praise from his fans and peers alike.
Moreover, thanks to the success of this tune, Wesley was invited multiple times to sing live on the Grand Ole Opry stage; a platform where some of the biggest names in Country & Western have stood and performed including Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and George Jones.
Background on “Didn’t I”
“Didn’t I” was co-written by acclaimed country music singer-songwriters Randy Montana, Kyle Jacobs and Ben Glover, and unlike his previous single, it is an up-tempo song, showcasing the versatility of Wesley’s voice. The song’s melody is strong and catchy, inspiring the listener to sing along to it. He delivers a bold vocal performance backed with conviction, making it a song that his audience members can relate to.
The song’s first verse is melancholic since the narrator compares their love to a circus, in which he is the “sad-faced clown,” who is “walking with his head down,” and is wondering where she could possibly be.
In the song’s chorus, he explores everything that he did for his significant other: wrapping her up in his arms, as well as looking her in the eyes and swearing that he loved her; moreover, he reveals that he gave her everything she ever wanted, including his unconditional love.
By the end of the song, the listener will be fully convinced that the narrator did all in his power to keep their relationship together.
The Verdict
James Wesley’s latest single “Didn’t I” is an absolute gem! Similar to his previous single “Real,” he continues to stay true to his roots. Sung with sincerity and passion, it has all the necessary ingredients to become a Top 5 hit, at the very least.
For listeners who are unfamiliar with Wesley's music, it is the ideal song to introduce them to his musical work.
The song is recommended for music fans of traditional and modern country, or anybody who is interested in hearing a well-crafted song by one of the finest and most talented male vocalists in the genre.
