On Wednesday, November 2, 2011, Suite101 chatted with indie singer-songwriter Val Emmich, where he discussed the upcoming forthcoming 2011 Rock the Schools benefit concert on November 18, 2011, at Gramercy Theatre in New York City.
Val Emmich Talks About the 2011 “Rock the Schools” Benefit Concert
On the 20111 Rock the Schools benefit concert, Val Emmich remarks, “it’s a great lineup, and it’s for a great cause. I played music in school. I played the saxophone and the piano. I wish there was more push for music in the school I grew up in New Jersey. For me, music is a tension-reliever and it helps people relate to other humans. It is something that breathes empathy in people, and emotions. Music enhances your dexterity. It gets your mind going and your fingers as well.”
Emmich is slated to share the stage along with Ryan Cabrera, Tyler Hilton, Dion Roy, and Bryan Greenberg. “I have never met those gentlemen, but I am looking forward to that. I’m the newbie on the lineup. Anytime you can get exposed to new people is great. I am excited to play with them. I think it’s a going to be a great night!”
Emmich notes that he plans to perform songs from his latest album, Aide Memoire, which came out earlier this month. “I will be with my band, and we will do a stripped down, acoustic set. It’s a very electric rock record, so it’s always fun to reinterpret it for a different kind of show,” he says.
Val Emmich Discusses his Acting Career
In addition to being an independent musician, Emmich is also an actor who has played in television shows, films and commercials.
“It’s just about picking the right projects and following what you are most passionate about. I find that they both fulfill a part of me. They both scratch an itch,” Emmich acknowledges.
Val Emmich Talks Future Plans
“My plans for the future are open right now. I just released this new record, so I’m doing some touring and I’m still going to auditions for film projects. I am also writing a lot of fiction, which is a tough industry,” Emmich reveals.
Emmich admits that as a dream duet he would love to collaborate with such artists as Zooey Deschanel, who is part of the duo She & Him, as well as Fiona Apple and Florence Welch, the lead singer of Florence and the Machine.
