On Saturday, August 21, 2010, Suite101 was afforded the privileged opportunity to speak with Tyler Hilton, a Warner Brothers Records singer-songwriter, prior to his concert at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York, as part of Fresh 102.7's "Fresh in the Park" series.
On performing at Eisenhower Park, Long Island, as part of Fresh 102.7 FM's "Fresh in the Park Series," Tyler Hilton remarks "It's killer. I'm about to go on tour in a month or so, so this is the first show to kick it off again. I like all the artists I am playing with, and this is a killer setting, so I think it'll be cool."
Tyler Hilton's Musical Background and Influences
Growing up, Tyler Hilton would perform in community plays and school theater, but his first professional performance commenced on March 6, 1999, where he "played at a coffee house in Palm Desert. That was the first time I played professionally," Hilton says.
Hilton's biggest musical influences include artists such as "Weezer, John Mayer, and old Americana music like John Mellencamp and Tom Petty. That kind of stuff I really dig," Hilton adds.
From all the songs Hilton has recorded, his personal favorite is a song called "You'll Ask For Me." "It's one of my favorite I did. I kinda just did it as a demo and it ended up on the 'One Tree Hill' soundtrack and I'm going to play it tonight, but I like how it came out. I think it's cool," Hilton says.
Tyler Hilton Discusses Collaborating With Taylor Swift
Tyler Hilton had the privilege of collaborating with country music sensation Taylor Swift on "Missing You," a rendition of the John Waite classic and Hilton starred as Drew in Swift's music video for "Teardrops on My Guitar."
On collaborating with Swift, Hilton remarks "it was cool. It was just kinda casual. She liked my version of the song. Then when she came through town she got in touch with me and we got together and I sang at her concert. When I was on stage that night, she had asked if I could be in her video and I was like 'yeah that would be killer,' but I had no idea that it was going to blow up as big as it did, but she's so talented, so it was killer to do it. It was really cool."
Future Collaborations and Proudest Moment
In the future, Hilton "would really like to collaborate with Jack White from the White Stripes." "I think he's really killer. I would want to do something with him," says Hilton. "I think Miranda Lambert's amazing! I would love to work with her. She's killer," Hilton adds.
His proudest professional moment was "playing Elvis in Walk the Line cause I was such a fan of his growing up. Getting to play him in a movie was my own little way of saying 'thanks.' I was so into him as a kid."
