Joseph Rojas, the lead singer of Christian rock band Seventh Day Slumber, talks to Suite101 about their new album "The Anthem of Angels," single, and tour.

On February 14, 2012, Suite101 chats with Joseph Rojas, the lead singer of the chart-topping Christian rock band Seventh Day Slumber. He opens up about their single “Wasted Life,” as well as their newest album and tour.

Rojas Talks About Christian Rock Music

“Honestly, I love the opportunity to be able to let people know that life is not hopeless,” he says. “I get to let people know that there is hope out there. Seventh Day Slumber is about being real, and connecting with people and where they are at. We try to deal with all different areas, and we want to have something for everybody from the soccer mom to the hard rock kid.”

Rojas Talks About “The Anthem of Angels” CD

Their newest CD The Anthem of Angels was released on November 15, 2011, via their label BEC Recordings. According to Rojas, he remarks, “We wrote about sixteen or seventeen songs for the record, and we wanted to have a variety of songs to choose from. We wanted them to be really raw and honest, and we wanted it to be an authentic album.”

Rojas Discusses “The Anthem of Angels Tour”

“We are really excited about this tour and it’s going to be a high energy experience!” he exclaims. “It’s going to have pyrotechnics and it’s going to be crazy. We are bringing out a band called Manic Drive from Canada and Ilia, and they are both great artists. Most importantly, not only will this be a great rock show, but it will also be a life-changing experience for somebody who is hurting and needs encouragement.”

Rojas Discusses “Wasted Life”

He notes that their single “Wasted Life” is a song about hope.

“It is about the life I used to live,” Rojas discloses. “When I was sixteen years old, I was in trouble with the law, and by the age of eighteen, I was on my way of wasting my whole life. That’s what the song is about. I had made some bad choices, so I had a lot of bitterness and anger. At the age of 22, I wanted to commit suicide and in the back of an ambulance, I cried out to God, and I became a Christian. This tune talks about the hard and hopeless times, but it talks about where I am now. It was a miracle from God that I am able to be a husband now, as well as a father to my kids.”

Rojas Opens Up About his Proudest Accomplishments

Rojas was fortunate to have many proud moments in his career as part of Seventh Day Slumber. He was presented a plaque from the city of Victorville, California. “I was born in that city, and the mayor actually presented it to me, and stating that they witnessed a miracle in my life, and they said that I am an inspiration for all of the people in the town,” he states.

Yet another impressive milestone for Seventh Day Slumber was when their CD Rescatame was named “Best Spanish Language Album” at the 40th Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards ceremony. “That was amazing since there are not that many Latinos singing Christian rock music. It is sitting on my living room mantle,” he adds.

Rojas Shares his Dream Duet Choices in Music

“I would love to sing with Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart!” he reveals. “I have met them, and they are the nicest people, and they have paved the way. I’d love to do a song with them. They are legends and they rock!”

Rojas Addresses their Fans

“We love them and we appreciate everything they do for us, whether it is a record that they bought or any Facebook message or email that they ever sent us. A lot of fans may not feel appreciated by bands, but we truly care about them and their well-being,” Rojas concludes.
