On January 27, 2012, Suite101 had the opportunity to chat with DJ Paul Rudd, who is ranked as one of the greatest disc jockeys in the United Kingdom.
DJ Paul acknowledges that he does get mistaken a lot for his Hollywood counterpart. “I do get that quite a lot. It doesn’t help that he said in an interview with David Letterman that he used to DJ for bar mitzvahs when he was younger, because everybody that looks up ‘DJ Paul Rudd’ finds him as well,” he admits.
DJ Paul Talks About Dance Music
“I grew up with music and I’ve always loved it, so I decided to become a DJ, and I did not give up,” he says. “I love the way that you can control an audience with songs. People pay to come in to a club or a venue or a show and they want to see a DJ or someone perform. Just watching the people react to it is absolutely fantastic!”
“The hardest aspect of my job is trying to make everybody happy, especially when I come over to other countries where I have not played before. You want people to come and see your show and leave in a good mood. That’s probably the most difficult part of a DJ’s job,” he remarks.
DJ Paul Talks “Sound of London”
“The new album is coming out in April or May of this year,” DJ Paul reveals. “I am actually working on the next single ‘Set Me Free’ at the moment, which I am doing with a singer called Jaki Graham. She is one of the Britain’s biggest soul voices for the last twenty years. She had a #1 song in the United States with a cover of Chaka Kahn’s ‘Ain’t Nobody.’ I am really looking forward to that!”
He worked on this record with the legendary producer Tony Matthew, who has worked for such artists as Soul 2 Soul and Kylie Minogue. “It was fantastic, and an honor to work with him. Tony is a natural legend!” he exclaims.
“I want this album to represent me in the best way possible,” he adds.
DJ Paul Talks About Honors and Recognition
According to MTV, he is one of the United Kingdom’s “Top 50 DJs,” and he has been listed in the “Top 40” of The DJ List, which is the world’s largest DJ directory and dance music resource. “I’ve actually found out this morning that I am actually #29 in the UK, so I am in the Top 30, and I am happy about that,” he shares.
DJ Paul Discusses his Future Plans
He notes that there are a lot of exciting things happening for him this year, which include the release of his debut album, as well as several more singles. He also hopes to tour America and perform in such places as Las Vegas, Chicago, Detroit and New York.
