On August 3, 2011, Suite101 chatted with singer-songwriter DJ Miller from the indie label Evergreen Records. He talks about his upcoming album, and latest single “Between Sundays.”
Miller Shares his Musical Influences
“Growing up, I was a huge fan of Garth Brooks. Brad Paisley also became another one of my big influences. I love their energy on stage and the way they interact with the crowd!” Miller exclaims.
Miller Talks about his Forthcoming Album
“The new album is expected to come out around September or October. We have a mixture of some good ballads, some mid-tempo songs, and some rocking country songs. All of them are real, and songs that I can personally relate to. They are good family entertainment. It has a traditional country sound to it, tied in with that modern sound that people love to hear,” he says.
“I am a co-writer on half of the songs on the album,” he adds.
Miller Talks About his New Single “Between Sundays”
“The new single is ‘Between Sundays.’ It concentrates on the good in people, and how important it is for everyday life. A lot of people specifically go to church on Sundays, and they think that doing that does it all for them. The song is about walking the walk and talking the talk. It’s about carrying on that faithful attitude every day, and not just one day a week,” Miller shares.
Miller Talks About his New Music Video
“We filmed a video for the new single. It was an awesome experience. I really had no idea how music videos are made. The overall video turned out great. The actors and actresses that we used were really good. I remember it was a very hot day, so I was introduced to a lot of powder on my face. Makeup was a big thing. Other than that, we had a lot of fun,” he says.
Miller Talks About his Song “The Little Things”
“It’s a song that I wrote, and I love the whole feel of the song. The melody is great. It’s a very real song and it paints a picture. You could see a smile on everybody’s face that I’ve played it for. There are certain parts in the song, where you can see what’s happening. The lines in it give you so much detail,” he shares.
Miller Talks Proudest Accomplishments
“Getting to where I am. It’s not always fun putting the rough hours, but as soon as I found out that I was getting signed with the label, that was one of my proudest moments of my life. All of the years that I worked for paid off,” he admits.
Miller Talks Pre-Show Rituals
“I don’t really have any pre-show rituals. I’ve had a few that have lasted for a little while. I would always take a shot of lemon juice to clear out my throat every time, or I would have to have a bottle of green tea with me. Right now, I can’t even think of anything that I’ve been doing regularly before my show. I just try to go in there with a good attitude and be pumped!
Miller Discusses Future Plans
“I want to be as successful as I possibly can. I definitely want to get that ‘Entertainer of the Year’ award. That’s a big goal for me! I want to get the album out, and get some more music videos done, as well as more songs out there,” he says.
Miller’s Dream Collaboration Choices
“I would really love to do a duet with Reba McEntire. I’ve always been a big fan of hers. Her voice is like an angel to me. She has a traditional sound too. Kenny Chesney is high up on my list of doing duets, but I would just love to sing with Garth Brooks. That would be awesome!”
Miller Shares Hidden Talents
“I’m really big into playing pool. I’ve been playing it for almost two years now and I like going anywhere there is a pool table. Over the years, I’ve gotten pretty good at it to the point where I had my own stick,” he laughs.
“I’ve been a volunteer firefighter for four years, so I have that emergency response kind of talent that I really love,” he adds.

“Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, and for listening to my music. Check out my new
website, and visit me on Facebook,” he concludes.
