On Thursday, February 2, 2012, Suite101 spoke with Deborah Allen, a two-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, about her latest single "It Better Be Big" and "Amazing Graceland" video and contest.
Deborah Talks New Single
“I am super excited about my new single ‘It Better Be Big.’ It is just a fun, rocking tune, and it was inspired by my wedding ring,” she says.
“We are getting ready to shoot a great video for it, which will be a lot of fun,” she adds.
Deborah Talks “Amazing Graceland” and Contest
In “Amazing Graceland,” Allen pays tribute to Elvis Presley. “I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. We used to drive to Graceland all the time, and a few Christmases ago I was invited to perform there on a private event, and as soon as I walked into the door, I was overwhelmed by the experience there. I couldn’t wait to get home to write this song.”
Allen filmed a music video for the tune, and she also has a contest for it, which may be seen on her official website, where the grand prize winner and a guest will receive roundtrip tickets to Memphis for the 35th Elvis Week anniversary celebration, where Allen will be performing, and the winner will enjoy a special meet-and-greet dinner with the country songstress.
“They will be showing all of these incredible Elvis movies on the lawn. It’s going to be incredible, and it will consist of wonderful performances,” she shares.
Deborah Talks “Baby I Lied”
Her hit “Baby I Lied,” from the early 1980s, earned her two Grammy nominations, which included “Best Female Country Vocal Performance,” and for “Best Country Song.”
“One of my favorite songs in my career is ‘Baby I Lied.’ It made such a big impact on my life and it took me around the world. As I go back out to radio, this song is still in rotation. It just hit the two million mark on radio airplay,” she acknowledges.
Allen reveals that her first #1 song as a songwriter is Janie Fricke’s “Don’t Worry ’bout Me Baby.” “I love Janie, and she’s a great singer!” she exclaims.
Deborah Talks About her Book
In addition to being a country singer-songwriter, she is also the author of a book entitled “The Loneliest Christmas Tree.”
“It is a book that I wrote a long time ago, and I always wanted to have it published. Ironically enough, my illustrator, Molly, was born on the year that I wrote the book and on Christmas Eve,” she says.
Deborah Discusses her Dream Duets
Allen remarks, “I would love to sing with Blake Shelton. I love him, and I sang on his first album, and I would like to do something with him. Travis Tritt also has one of the greatest voices in music. I also love Keith Urban, Loretta Lynn, Sheryl Crow and Miranda Lambert. I’ve already done a duet with George Jones, and one you’ve done one with him, where do you go from there?”
Deborah Thanks Fans
“I call my fans my friends, because it means so much to me to have their love and support. I am working really hard to make this year an exciting one for all of us. It’s going to be great, so hang on tight,” she concludes.
