A review of Chas Sandford's sophomore album "Wag More Bark Less," featuring "Someday Susan," "Let Love Back In This House," and "Whenever I See Your Smile"

Chas Sandford’s latest studio album “Wag More Bark Less” was released on October 26, 2010, via Hanalei Music Group.

All of the songs on Sandford’s twelve-track album were either written or co-written by Sandford himself; furthermore, “Wag More Bark Less” was produced, engineered and mixed by Sandford at Secret Sound, a recording facility that Sandford owns.

Background on Chas Sandford

According to the Credits section of his official website, Sandford’s songs have been recorded by artists from various genres of music such as country artists Alison Krauss and Brooks & Dunn, pop diva Tina Turner and adult contemporary veteran singer Rod Stewart, Rick Springfield and singer-songwriter Tyler Hilton.

A talented songwriter in his own right, Sandford has co-written songs such as John Waite’s chart-topping song “Missing You,” as well as Chicago’s “What Kind of Man Would I Be?” and Stevie Nicks’ “Talk To Me,” both of which were Top 5 hits on the Billboard Charts.

In addition, as a record producer, Sandford has worked with an elite group of artists including country music pioneer Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stevie Nicks and Chicago.

Prime Cuts on Chas Sandford’s CD

“Wag More Bark Less” opens with “Let Love Back In This House.” “Someday Susan” is a melodically beautiful song, which will make the listener sing along. For fans of slower songs, “Broken” is one of the finest ballads on the album.

Gifted singer-songwriter Nicole Witt is featured on harmony vocals on three Chas Sandford tunes: “My Favorite Regret,” “Love Can Mess You Up” as well as “Whenever I See Your Smile.” On “Whenever I See Your Smile,” both vocalists' voices blend well with each other, and simultaneously showcase their ability to hit the high notes, especially on the song's chorus.

“Because of You” is the highlight song on the album. It’s a mid-tempo love song, in which Sandford sings about a special girl. In this catchy song, the narrator discusses all the ways the girl has impacted his life and has changed it for the better. Along with “Someday Susan,” both songs are worthy of the repeat button on one's CD player.

The album closes with the powerhouse tune “It’s Changing,” in which he inquires whether or not the “good times” will ever come back again.

The Verdict

With “Wag More Bark Less,” Chas Sandford proves that he is able to co-write, record, produce and mix a solid sophomore album. Sandford is able to sing these twelve songs about loss, love and his life experiences, with much passion and conviction. This album is recommended for listeners of pop, rock and adult contemporary music, as well as country music fans.
