The 54th annual Grammy awards, took place on February, 12, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The awards were televised live on CBS.
Pop sensation Adele emerged as the biggest winner of the evening, where she took home six trophies, which included wins in the prestigious "Song of the Year," "Record of the Year" and "Album of the Year" categories. She is now tied with fellow pop star Beyonce for the record of most Grammy wins by a female artist in a single night.
Adele Honored at Pre-Telecast
At the pre-show Grammy telecast, she secured wins for "Best Pop Vocal Album" for 2 1, as well as for "Best Short Form Music Video" for "Rolling in the Deep," where she bested out Radiohead, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and dance artist Skrillex.
"Someone Like You" Wins Grammy
Her poignant ballad "Someone Like You," which also reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, took home the award for "Best Pop Solo Performance," where she triumphed over such nominated acts as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Pink.
Upon accepting the award for "Record of the Year," she was humble and gracious in her speech, and went on to thank "every radio programmer and broadcaster" for playing the song.
Adele Performs Live at 2012 Grammy Awards
During the live ceremony, Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow introduced Adele, and she went on to sing her smash hit "Rolling in the Deep," which Billboard declared as the 2011 "Single of the Year" in its Year-End charts.
Her sultry vocal was well-received by the Staples audience and garnered her a huge standing ovation from her peers (including Rihanna and Sir Paul McCartney), and earned her praise from fans worldwide. This marked her first public performance since her throat surgery in late 2011, thus proving that the British songstress came back stronger than ever.
Conclusion
As a result, Adele's grand total of Grammy awards include eight career wins, where she was previously named "Best New Artist" in 2009, and her tune "Chasing Pavements" was recognized as the "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance."
If she continues to write and record songs of the same caliber as the ones featured on her 21 CD, Adele ought to make room on her mantle for more accolades in the future.
