The “Best Pop Video” category of the forthcoming 2011 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) consists of five superstars in pop music, all of which are clearly at the top of their game. The award ceremony will take place on August 28, 2011 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
“Best Pop Video” Nominees
This year’s nominees for “Best Pop Video” include Adele for “Rolling in the Deep,” Bruno Mars for “Grenade,” Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), Pitbull (featuring Ne-Yo, Nayer and Afrojack) for “Give Me Everything,” and Britney Spears’ “Till the World Ends.”
Analysis and Prediction
Both Adele and Pitbull’s s songs topped the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, however, it is will extremely hard for them to win “Best Pop Video” especially with fierce competition derived from Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Britney Spears.
Bruno Mars is one of the favorites to win the “Best Male Video” VMA, however Britney and Katy will give him a run for his money in this category, especially since they are more popular, have larger fan-bases, and have been around a lot longer than Mars has.
Perhaps the strongest nominee in this race is Katy Perry for her stunning “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” video. Her eight-minute music video is more like a mini-film. It features cameos from former teen queen Debbie Gibson, Darren Criss, Rebecca Black, Hanson, Corey Feldman and Kenny G.
Particularly impressive about Perry’s song is that it peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Charts this week, and it helped her tie Michael Jackson’s record for most #1 songs from a single album. Besides, Perry is the most-nominated female artist at this year’s VMAs with ten nods and has yet to win a single moonman after years of filming consistently good videos. Her time has come!
Global pop sensation Britney Spears is tied for the most wins of the “Best Pop Video” honor along with No Doubt and ‘N Sync. Spears has achieved this milestone twice for her work on “Womanizer” and “Piece of Me”; moreover, she is nominated again for “Till The World Ends.” Even if she does not win this year, she will definitely be a big part of the VMAs, especially since many artists will be paying a special tribute to her, in an effort to celebrate her remarkable accomplishments in music.
The Verdict
The “Best Pop Video” frontrunner is Katy Perry. The possible spoilers could either be Britney Spears or Bruno Mars. Adele and Pitbull will have to settle with the nomination in this category, which is rewarding in itself.
